Two Middle School Administrators Announce Retirement Plans

Two middle school administrators have announced their plans to retire at the end of the 2009-10 school year.

Gerald Larvey, Assistant Principal at J. L. Stanford Middle School (JLS), was hired in 1980 as a Special Day Class teacher. He served in that capacity at Palo Alto High, Walter Hays Elementary, and JLS. In 1991 he served as an English teacher at JLS. Larvey continued at JLS, serving at the English Instructional Supervisor, Dean of Students, and part-time Principal, becoming the Assistant Principal in 2003.

Carmen Giedt, Principal at Terman Middle School, was hired in 2001 as the Coordinator of the Voluntary Transfer Program (VTP). She was assigned to the position of Director of Educational Support Services in 2003. Giedt moved to Terman in 2004 as the Assistant Principal, as the Interim Principal in 2005, and as Principal in 2006.

“Our community has benefited from the contributions and talents of these excellent educators,” said Kevin Skelly, District Superintendent. “While this presents an additional challenge, we are dedicated to building the strongest District Administrative Team possible for the community’s children.”

Scott Bowers, Assistant Superintendent, Human Resources
